Theatre Productions and Stage Design

Theatre · Works

Production photographs, scene captures, reels and stage design, posted by the companies and artists who made the theatre productions in them. Open one full size and you get the artist's own note about what it was, when it played and who else was in the room.

What gets uploaded is uneven, and that is the nature of the form. A set model photographed head-on from the front row sits next to two minutes of a fight call, a lighting state that existed for eight bars of music, and costume drawings with fabric swatches still stapled to the page. Video and audio embeds carry the rest: sound design, a capture from the stalls.

Every piece opens at full size with whatever the artist wrote underneath, and video and audio play in place, whether the file was uploaded or embedded from YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud or Spotify. Anyone can look at all of it. Following a company is the useful thing an account buys here, because theatre goes quiet between productions and the first sign of a new one is usually a rehearsal photograph going up.

A company with no institution behind it has no archive but its own hard drives. A four-night run leaves whatever the person with the camera happened to catch at the dress rehearsal, which is usually the curtain call and two wide shots. Anything past that exists because somebody in the company decided to keep it and put it somewhere, and that decision is what fills this page.
