Illustration: Editorial, Comics, Character Art

Individual illustrations, posted one at a time by the person who drew them. Editorial commissions, book pages, comic pages, character designs and personal work, each opening at full size with the caption the illustrator wrote: what the brief was, what it ran in, what it was made with. No account is needed to look.

Illustration styles do not sort neatly, but the making does. Ink and brush on paper scanned and cleaned up, gouache, screen print, digital painting in layers with the linework kept on its own, vector for anything that has to survive being resized. Where a piece is a sequence, the pages sit in reading order rather than as a few frames pulled out of it.

One illustration on its own is a poor sample. What it was for, what ran beside it and what else the same person can draw all sit on the profile the image links to, together with the contact details they publish there. Commissioning editors tend to arrive at a piece and leave through the portfolio, which is the route these pages are built for.

Illustration is made to sit next to something else: a paragraph, a chapter, a label, a panel that follows. That context is missing once an image is lifted onto a feed, so the note underneath matters more here than it would for a painting. Video and audio are allowed on any piece, which is where process reels and animated panels end up.
