Animation Festivals, Screenings, Workshops

Animation · Events

Animation festivals, one off screenings, studio open days and workshops, each listed by the animator, festival or venue running it. A listing carries the date, the place and a link out to the organiser's own page, which is where anything to do with entry happens.

Animation events split into two kinds. One is watching: a programme of shorts in a cinema, a festival strand, a graduation screening where twenty films run back to back and the room is mostly the people who made them. The other is doing: a weekend on puppet building, an afternoon on rigging, a software session that is really a session on patience.

The list reads without an account. Each entry has its dates, its location and whatever the organiser wrote about it, plus the link to their own site. Sign in, free, to follow an event so it turns up in your chronological feed, and to post your own: a screening, an open studio, a workshop you teach. Listing costs nothing.

Animation shows badly in a listing and well in a room. A short built for a large screen at twenty four frames looks different on a laptop, and stop motion in particular loses its surface. That is most of why screenings still exist for a form that lives online, and why open studio days matter: the puppets are small, and smaller than you would think.
